Acupuncture

Practiced for 3,000 years in asia.

As an ideal adjunct to chiropractic care, we use acupuncture when we see health problems that are caused by disruption to energy pathways in your body called acupuncture meridians or channels. This centuries-old healing art focuses on the integrity of bodily systems, not specific conditions. It is safe, generally painless, applicable to young and old, and is one of the fastest growing healing arts worldwide.

What About the Needles?

The most common question we get is about the needles we use. Most people have encountered hypodermic needles and sewing needles. Both types are gigantic compared to the ones we use. In fact, five of our needles could easily fit inside a hypodermic needle! We only use pre-sterilized, individually wrapped disposable needles that are put in a toxic waste container after use.

Feels Great

When we first insert these ultra-fine, sterile needles at special energy points on your body, most people report a small prick, like a mosquito bite. Others may experience a bit of pressure or warmth at the needle site. When there is anything more than a slight discomfort it is usually created by vivid imaginations, not our needles!

How Does it Work?

There are many proven scientific explanations as well as centuries old theories as to how acupuncture works. No one knows for sure. We just know it does. Perhaps the best way to think about acupuncture is to imagine rivers of energy (called Qi) throughout your body, organized by and flowing through meridians, much like blood flows through arteries or nerve energy flows electrically through nerve pathways. These meridians can experience a “log jam” whereby this energy or flow of Qi becomes restricted. The needles help loosen the logjam and allow the body's Qi to circulate properly, thereby restoring the body's health and vitality.

Acupuncture visits can take up to 20-40 minutes, and may be accompanied by a heat lamp or electro stimulation of the needles. Most people experience a variety of post-session feelings, which range from energized to a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

Acupuncture treatments are generally done in a series, based upon one's health problem, how long it's been present, the age of the patient and their overall state of health. Within a short period, most people enjoy enough improvement to justify completing our treatment recommendations. In addition to acupuncture, patient care may also include dietary suggestions, herbal medicine, exercises, stress reduction techniques and good, old fashioned doctoring.
